King Street runs 1.4 miles up the Charleston peninsula, from Broad Street to Line Street. The walk takes about 32 minutes. The street changes twice on the way: at Market Street, about number 220, and at Calhoun Street, about number 390. Three named districts follow one another south to north: antiques, then fashion, then design.

Croghan’s Jewel Box was founded in 1907 and calls itself Charleston’s oldest family-owned jewellery store. The shop sells fine and estate jewellery and engagement rings at 155, and does repairs and appraisals. Hours run Monday to Saturday, 10 to 5. Crystal chandeliers hang in rows under a plank ceiling at George C Birlant & Co, 191 King. Longcase clocks and burr-walnut chests stand in the same room, and silver flatware lies on red cloth. The firm dates to 1922 and has made the original Charleston Battery Bench for more than fifty years.
The antiques trade runs on past Birlant. Tucker Payne Antiques is at 169, and more estate jewellery sits at Joint Venture Estate Jewelers, 185. The Silver Vault of Charleston stocks sterling silver, decorative art, barware and baby gifts at 195.
Men’s suits and sportcoats hang at Berlin’s For Men, 114 King, with Berlins For Women beside it at 116. The Ben Silver Collection stocks tailored clothing, shirts, neckwear and Geo. F. Trumper toiletries. Books are at Buxton Books, number 160. The Charleston painter Kevin LePrince founded LePrince Fine Art Galleries in 2011. The gallery shows oil painting, sculpture and art lighting at 183 and 184, seven days a week. Grit & Grace Studio opens every day at 8:30 and sells jewellery, candles, stationery, oyster-shell gifts and permanent jewellery.

Nearly an acre of garden opened at 174 King in November 2025. There are two fountains, brick paths, planted beds and a lawn. The Beemok Hospitality Collection runs it. Entry is free, every day from 7am to 9pm. There is a coffee cart. Daily events include Qigong sessions and “Books on the Green”.

A golden retriever lies in the aisle at M. Dumas & Sons, 294 King. Folded knitwear covers wooden tables, and rails of coats run along a brick wall. The floor is reclaimed plank. The shop sells men’s and women’s clothing, formalwear, leather goods and luggage. It opens seven days a week.
Candlefish keeps a library of about 100 candle fragrances at 270. A match bar sits inside, and workshops teach candle-making. Boots come from Tecovas at 288. Southern sportswear hangs at Collared Greens, 273. Half-Moon Outfitters sells clothing, footwear and gear for hiking, paddling and climbing. Grady Ervin & Co stocks blazers, bow ties, pocket squares and pocket knives. It closes on Sunday. Men’s denim is at Mugsy, and athletic-fit dress shirts at State & Liberty. Shoes on King, 335, sells shoes. Ascot Diamonds does engagement rings and custom settings at 255, by appointment. The national chains sit on the same blocks: J.Crew, Anthropologie, Sephora, Pottery Barn and Kendra Scott.

Hand-knotted rugs hang floor to ceiling along a white wall at Michael Mitchell, 414 King. More sit in stacks on a low plinth, next to two grey swivel chairs. The shop also sells furniture and lamps. At 409, Old Whaling Co sells bar soap, candles, body butter and bath bombs. It stays open to 6 on Friday and Saturday. Photography hangs at Ben Ham Gallery, 416. New and used books fill Blue Bicycle Books at 420. The shop hosts the YALLFest literary festival. Consignment clothing is the trade at Ensemble Consignment Boutique, 444. Furniture comes from west elm at 484.
East West Gem Co. sells custom moissanite rings and bands at 567, by appointment. Wynsum Antiques & Interiors sells antiques and interiors at 648. Art materials come from Artist & Craftsman Supply at 981. At 1056, Redux Contemporary Art Center runs exhibitions and artist studios. Classes cover gouache, watercolour, indigo dyeing, glass and felting. It is a non-profit, open Tuesday through Saturday.
