Micro Skiffs for Christmas 2026: BOTE Rover, Gheenoe and Sea Eagle FastCat Prices, Motors and Launches

A micro skiff is a boat light enough to slide into a pickup or onto a small trailer, with a small outboard that runs it up the creeks. The BOTE Rover, five Gheenoes and Sea Eagle’s two FastCats run from $2,249 to $4,449 before the motor, and a Tohatsu tiller adds $1,599 to $3,904.

A micro skiff is a small, flat boat with a small outboard on the back: light enough to slide into a pickup bed or onto a little trailer, shallow enough to run up a creek on a falling tide, and simple enough to launch alone on a Saturday morning. On this coast it opens up the marsh creeks and the sandbars.

Three makers cover most of the class. BOTE builds the Rover, a 14-foot hull shaped like an oversized paddle board. Gheenoe and Custom Gheenoe build fiberglass skiffs from 13 to 16 feet. Sea Eagle builds the FastCat12 and FastCat14, inflatable catamarans that pack into a bag. The boats run from $2,249 to $4,449 before the motor, and a Tohatsu tiller outboard adds $1,599 to $3,904. The On the Water page carries the tides and every public launch.

BOTE Rover Gatorshell

The Rover is 14 feet long, 40 inches wide and 12 inches deep, and weighs 105 pounds. It carries 500 pounds and draws 3 inches of water, so it reaches sandbars and creek mouths at low water. A removable Moto Rac on the stern takes an outboard of up to 9.9 hp and doubles as a rod holder with room for a fuel can, and it paddles too: BOTE includes a two-piece adjustable paddle.

BOTE lists the Rover at $4,449, with freight shipping from $250. On November 5 the product page showed it sold out, so check stock there before Christmas.

Gheenoe 13' and 15'4"

The two smaller Gheenoes weigh 145 pounds each. The 13-foot model is a little over three and a half feet wide, takes a short-shaft outboard of up to 5 hp, and fits on a car roof rack or in the back of a pickup. The 15'4" is almost four feet wide, carries a 675 capacity rating, handles a 10 hp outboard at up to 18 miles an hour, and floats fully loaded in 3 to 5 inches of water. The Coast Guard counts it as a canoe, so it can be paddled into no-motor zones with the outboard off.

The 13' is $2,890 and the 15'4" is $2,910 on Gheenoe's 2025 list, without motor or shipping. A swivel seat is $95.

Gheenoe Classic 15'6"

The Classic is wider and faster than the two smaller Gheenoes: a four-and-a-half-foot beam, 245 pounds, and up to 34 miles an hour on a 25 hp motor. It is light enough to tow behind a four-cylinder car. Options include lights, an aerated livewell, a bilge pump, swivel seats, a poling platform and stick steering. It is $4,200 on the 2025 list.

Custom Gheenoe LT 25 and LT 10

Custom Gheenoe, a separate builder in Titusville, Florida, makes the Lo Tide models. The LT 25 is 16 feet long and 56 inches wide, weighs 270 pounds, draws 5 inches, carries three people and takes up to 25 hp, with a tiller or a console. It starts at $3,520. The LT 10 is 15 feet 10 inches long, weighs about 190 pounds, takes up to 10 hp and starts at $2,610.

Sea Eagle FastCat12 and FastCat14

The FastCats are inflatable catamarans with a drop-stitch floor, and they pack into a bag for the trip to the water. The FastCat12 is 12 feet 9 inches long, weighs 86 pounds, carries two people or 1,200 pounds and takes a gas outboard of up to 6 hp. Deflated, it packs to 57 by 25 by 16 inches. Its Deluxe Package is $2,249.

The FastCat14 is 14 feet 4 inches long and 6 feet 7 inches wide, weighs 126 pounds, carries four people or 1,600 pounds and takes up to 20 hp. Deflated, it packs to 72 by 25 by 12 inches. The hull and its Deluxe two-person package are $3,199, and the Swivel Seat Canopy package is $3,799.

Registration and Rules

South Carolina. Every motorized boat is titled and registered with SCDNR, and so is every outboard of 5 hp or more. A new boat's registration and title is $20, renewal is $10 a year, and a new outboard title is $10. After a dealer sale, the county sends the property tax bill once the boat is registered. From January 1, 2027, outboards of 5 hp and up are registered instead of titled. Anyone born after July 1, 2007 needs an approved boater education course to run a boat with a 10 hp motor or more. Every person aboard needs a wearable life jacket in reach and in the right size, and anyone under 12 wears one on a boat under 16 feet. A boat trailer under 2,500 pounds that is privately owned needs no license or registration.

Georgia. Every boat with a motor is registered, for three calendar years at a time, online at GoOutdoorsGeorgia.com or at 1-800-366-2661, and Georgia keeps the title electronically. A child under 12 may run a boat under 16 feet with a motor of 30 hp or less only with an adult of 18 or older aboard. From 12 through 15, a boater education course or an adult aboard is required for a boat under 16 feet. Anyone 16 or older born after January 1, 1998 needs the course and carries the card. Children under 13 wear a life jacket on any moving boat.

Both states. A driver of a boat under 26 feet with an engine cut-off switch uses its lanyard. A boat under 26 feet with an outboard, a portable fuel tank and no closed space for fuel vapor needs no fire extinguisher.

First Launches

These public launches put in on tidal creeks and rivers. The two kayak launches suit the Rover and the FastCats, which can be carried to the water. Every launch on the coast is in the boat-ramp directory.
