Boardwalks through 800 acres of blackwater bottomland swamp, inside the town limits.
Walterboro Wildlife Sanctuary
The sanctuary protects several hundred acres of blackwater bottomland inside Walterboro itself, crossed by boardwalk and sand trail. Cypress and tupelo stand in tea-coloured water and the light through them is the reason photographers come. Braided creeks here were part of the old Charleston to Savannah trading path.
