Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge
The refuge runs for twenty miles up the coast north of Charleston, tens of thousands of acres of barrier island, marsh and creek that can only be reached by boat. It carries the largest loggerhead nesting population north of Florida. The visitor centre on Highway 17 at Awendaw is the place to start.
