The Washout
Folly Beach, east end
Folly’s main break. It works best mid to high tide, with north or north-west winds grooming the face; a south-east leaning swell and a north-west wind is the classic combination here. Intermediates and up, or a confident beginner who has had a lesson.
It sits outside the summer swimming zone, so the seasonal hours do not apply. A surf leash is required at all times of the year.
Expect heavier currents and more push than most other sandbars on the island.
