A boardwalked rookery in the middle of town where herons and egrets nest over the water.
Port Royal Cypress Wetlands
The wetlands sit in the middle of Port Royal, a cypress pond looped by boardwalk and gravel path. In spring the rookery fills with nesting herons, egrets and ibis, close enough that a long lens is optional. Alligators use the same water, which is why the boardwalk exists.
