The Academy occupies the Telfair family's 1819 mansion on Telfair Square and opened as a museum in 1886, the first public art museum in the South. Its period rooms sit alongside nineteenth-century American and European painting. The Bird Girl statue from the cover of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil is here, moved in from Bonaventure.
